Claude 3.5 Sonnet (claude.ai) Review
Claude 3.5 Sonnet (claude.ai) is Anthropics flagship reasoning model engineered for developers, technical writers, and enterprises. It sets industry benchmarks for code generation and multi-step logic.
The platform introduces Claude Artifacts, a dedicated side-by-side workspace for previewing React components, diagrams, and live websites. With a 200K context window, it ingests entire codebases and legal documents without losing retrieval precision.
Teams deploy Claude through the web chat interface or cloud APIs on AWS Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI. Its experimental Computer Use API enables autonomous desktop automation, mouse navigation, and automated software testing.
In-depth review: what Claude 3.5 Sonnet (claude.ai) actually does
Checked 28 Oct 2026Claude (claude.ai) is Anthropic's AI assistant. It handles long documents, code, research and everyday writing, and it runs in the browser, on desktop and on mobile. A separate developer platform offers the same models through an API.
The consumer app is organized around Projects, Artifacts and Connectors. Paid plans add Claude Code, which works on repositories from the terminal. Anthropic's current lineup is Fable 5.1, Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5, with context windows of up to one million tokens depending on the model. Usage limits apply on every plan, including paid ones. The assistant also runs code and produces editable files.
Features worth knowing
Projects combine files, instructions and chat history in one workspace. Free accounts can create five, while paid plans add retrieval over larger knowledge bases.
Artifacts are editable outputs that open beside the chat. Templates cover documents, slides, designs, dashboards and short animations.
Claude Code works on a repository from the terminal and is included with Pro. It can plan changes, edit files and run tests.
Connectors link Claude to tools such as Slack and Google Workspace through remote MCP servers. They are available on every plan, including Free.
What is Claude used for?
People use Claude for writing, analysis, coding and research. It can read long files, compare documents and produce structured outputs. You can paste text, upload files or connect a data source before asking a question. The app also runs code and creates files when a task needs computation, and it can turn that analysis into charts and documents.
Claude's models accept text and images and support tool use. Current models accept up to one million tokens of context, depending on the model, and up to 128K tokens of output. Anthropic positions Opus 5.5 as the default for most workloads and Fable 5.1 for harder reasoning. That capacity suits long reports, large codebases and multi-step research across several source documents.
How much does Claude cost?
Free costs nothing but limits projects to five, while Pro costs $20 monthly or $17 with annual billing at $200 upfront. Max starts at $100, offers five or twenty times Pro usage, and includes $100 to $200 per month in API credits depending on the tier.
Team costs $25 per standard seat monthly, or $20 annually, and Premium seats cost $125 or $100. Enterprise is $20 per seat annually plus API usage, with a 20-seat minimum. Team and Enterprise plans add central billing, SSO and admin controls for connectors, and the Team plan supports 2 to 150 people. Seats can be mixed within one workspace, and all prices exclude applicable tax.
What are Claude Projects?
A project is a workspace with its own instructions, files and chat history. You can upload documents once and then ask questions that draw on that knowledge. Project instructions can set tone, role or output format for every chat in that project. Free accounts are capped at five projects, while paid plans remove that limit entirely.
Paid plans add retrieval-augmented generation when project knowledge approaches the context limit. Anthropic says this expands capacity by up to 10x for large knowledge bases. A new version of projects is rolling out in beta with parallel cloud threads. The beta runs work in threads that continue after you close your laptop, and projects draw from plan usage like any other request.
Can Claude control a computer?
Claude can control a desktop through the computer use tool in the API. It takes screenshots and sends mouse and keyboard actions to an environment you provide. The toolset bundles 17 actions, including screenshot, left click, type and zoom. The toolset is not available in Claude Managed Agents, the hosted agent product.
This is a developer feature rather than a consumer button. Anthropic recommends a dedicated virtual machine, limited internet access and human confirmation for risky steps. Anthropic also offers a separate browser use tool for tasks that stay inside web pages. Those precautions reflect the security risk of desktop control.
Limitations to weigh first
- –Free accounts can create at most five projects and cannot use Claude Code or the Fable model.
- –Every plan has usage limits, and running several project threads at once consumes the allowance faster.
- –Computer use requires your own virtual machine or container and is not available in Managed Agents.
Common questions
Is Claude free to use?
Yes. The Free plan includes chat, web search, memory, connectors and up to five projects.
What is the difference between Claude Pro and Max?
Max offers five or twenty times the usage of Pro, higher output limits and priority access at busy times.
How large is Claude's context window?
Anthropic lists context windows of up to one million tokens, varying by model, with up to 128K tokens of output.
Does Claude support MCP?
Yes. Connectors use remote MCP servers to link external tools and data to Claude.
