Cursor (cursor.com) Review

Cursor (cursor.com) is an AI-first integrated development environment built as a native fork of VS Code. It pairs software developers with frontier language models directly inside their local workspace.

The editor builds a local semantic index using abstract syntax trees to understand your complete repository. With Composer (Cmd+I), developers generate, edit, and refactor multi-file diffs simultaneously using plain natural language.

Features like Copilot++ autocomplete predict multi-line edits as you type with sub-90ms latency. Strict Privacy Mode guarantees that proprietary company source code is never stored on external servers or used for model training.

In-depth review: what Cursor (cursor.com) actually does

Checked 28 Oct 2026

Cursor (cursor.com) is a coding agent for building software. It runs as a desktop editor, a command-line tool and a cloud service. It can also review pull requests and answer questions in Slack. Cursor is sold as part of The X Subscription, which bundles Grok, Cursor and X.

The product is built around agents rather than autocomplete alone. You describe a change, and Cursor plans it, edits files, runs commands and checks the result. A separate Tab feature still handles fast inline suggestions as you type. Plans differ mainly in how much agent usage they include.

Features worth knowing

Tab completion

Tab predicts multi-line edits, missing imports and changes in other files. Pressing Tab again jumps to the next place it expects you to edit.

Agent

The agent opens in the side pane with Cmd+I and can search, edit, run terminal commands and control a browser. Checkpoints let you restore files if a run goes wrong.

Cloud agents and Bugbot

Cloud agents work in parallel on their own machines and return finished changes for review. Bugbot reviews pull requests and can apply fixes automatically.

Model choice

Cursor offers models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and xAI, plus its own Composer 2.5. You can pick a model for each task.

What is Cursor?

Cursor describes itself as a coding agent for ambitious software. It reads a codebase, plans a change and carries it out across multiple files. Projects add a coordinator agent that splits a larger body of work among several agents. The agent can also answer questions about unfamiliar code without making changes.

The editor, CLI and cloud agents share one usage pool. That means a long agent run in the desktop app affects the same balance as a cloud job. Usage and the next reset date appear in the editor settings. Teams can pool usage and manage billing from an admin dashboard.

How much does Cursor cost?

Cursor has five individual tiers. Free is limited, Plus costs $8 per month, Premium costs $30, Super costs $100 and Ultra costs $200. Teams starts at $30 per seat per month, and higher seat tiers unlock more usage. Plus adds Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build alongside agent access.

All paid plans include a weekly usage pool that refreshes each week. Legacy Cursor plans remain available for existing subscribers. The Teams plan adds centralized billing, usage analytics and SSO, and prices exclude applicable taxes.

Can Cursor review pull requests?

Yes, through a product called Bugbot. It reviews pull requests on GitHub and GitLab, assigns a risk score and comments on likely defects. Teams can run it automatically or only when someone posts a review command.

Bugbot can also push a fix to a new branch or the existing branch. It is available on Premium and above, not on Free or Plus. Enterprise teams can trigger reviews through an API with a rate limit of 30 requests per minute. A repository configuration file controls review frequency and autofix behavior.

Does Cursor work outside the editor?

Cursor ships a CLI for terminal work and a Slack app that can pick up requests in a thread. Cloud agents run on remote machines, so a job can continue after you close your laptop. A mobile app lets you check progress from a phone. The CLI installs with one command and supports headless use in CI pipelines.

The agent also connects to GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, Jira, Linear and Notion. Secure codebase indexing and semantic search help it find relevant code before editing. Those features matter most in large repositories. Cursor also offers an Agent SDK for TypeScript and Python.

Limitations to weigh first

  • –Plus uses only Grok and Composer models and excludes cloud agents, automations, Bugbot, Origin hosting and third-party models.
  • –Third-party models are not part of the included pool; on Premium and above they are billed at API list price from prepaid credit.
  • –The included usage pool refreshes weekly, and heavy agent use can require top-ups. US data residency adds a 10% uplift on eligible models.

Common questions

Is Cursor a full code editor?

Yes. Cursor is a desktop editor with an agent pane, Tab completion and support for common languages and extensions.

Can I use Claude or GPT models in Cursor?

Yes, on Premium and above. Third-party models are billed at API list price from prepaid credit.

Does Cursor have a free plan?

Yes, but it includes limited agent and chat requests and no cloud agents, Bugbot or third-party models.

Can Cursor run without the desktop app?

Yes. The CLI, Slack app, mobile app and cloud agents cover work outside the editor.
