It runs on Google's Gemini models and can search the web, analyze files, generate images, and write code. It also works inside Gmail, Docs, and other Workspace apps. Paid plans add higher usage limits, newer models, and more creative credits.
The lineup is Free, Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro, and Google AI Ultra. A separate Gemini Enterprise line sells seats to businesses. Google lists U.S. prices on its plans page, and availability varies by country; AI Pro is sold in more than 150 countries.

Google's frontier model began rolling out to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in October 2026. Paid tiers also list separate Pro and Flash models, while the free tier uses Flash-Lite.

What can Gemini do inside Google Workspace?
Gemini appears in Gmail, Docs, Vids, and other Google apps on paid plans. In Deep Research, you can add Gmail or Drive as sources, but only if the Google Workspace app is connected to Gemini Apps. Google Search remains the default source.
You can deselect Google Search to limit a report to your own files. Ultra subscribers can get charts and interactive visuals in reports, but that feature is not available when Workspace services are included as sources.
What are Gems in Gemini?
Gems are saved custom instructions that you can reuse for a repeated task. A Gem can include a name, instructions, and knowledge files. Google says Gems will transition to skills for personal accounts starting in November 2026, and for work and school accounts in 2027.
Skills work in much the same way but can be invoked with a slash in any chat, applied automatically, and stacked together. A skill can hold up to 100 MB of files, and skills are currently limited to users aged 18 or over.
Does Gemini have a research mode?
Yes. Deep Research creates a research plan that you can edit before it starts. It then reads many sources and produces a report, usually in five to ten minutes. You need to be 18 or over and signed in to the Gemini app.
Daily research limits apply, and Google does not publish a fixed number on the help page. AI Pro and Ultra subscribers get higher limits. Canvas is separate: it is a working surface for drafting documents, slides, code, or apps alongside the chat.
