Split inbox sections group VIPs, teammates and connected tools at the top of the inbox. Instant Reply shows three draft responses at the bottom of the latest message, and Auto Labels sort incoming mail by context.
Go works in the browser, on desktop and on mobile, offering inline suggestions, chat about the page on screen, and agents that prepare meetings or draft email. Superhuman Mail requires a Gmail or Outlook account.
In-depth review: what Superhuman AI actually does
Checked 28 Oct 2026Superhuman (superhuman.com) is a productivity suite built around email, documents, and an AI assistant. The company was formerly known as Grammarly and took the Superhuman name in late 2025. Its products now include Superhuman Mail, Superhuman Docs, Superhuman Go, and the Grammarly writing assistant.
Superhuman Mail is the email app most buyers search for. It works with Gmail and Outlook accounts and adds keyboard-driven triage, shared conversations, and AI features such as split inbox, instant reply, and auto labels. The suite sells to individuals, teams, and enterprises, and prices start at $0, though Mail requires the Business plan.
Features worth knowing
Split inbox puts separate sections at the top of your inbox for VIPs, teammates, or connected tools. Each section shows a conversation count so you can see what still needs a reply.
Instant Reply shows three draft replies at the bottom of the latest message. Press Tab to preview each draft, then Enter to insert a reply-all draft you can edit.
Auto Labels sort incoming mail by context, such as Marketing, News, Pitch, or Social. The built-in library can be extended with rules or, on the Business plan, an AI prompt.
Go is an assistant that works in the browser, on desktop, and on mobile. It offers inline suggestions, chat about the page on screen, and agents that prepare meetings or draft email.
What is split inbox in Superhuman Mail?
Split inbox organizes the top of your inbox into sections such as VIP, Team, News, or Other. Messages that match a section are filed there automatically, and the count beside each section shows how many conversations remain. You move between sections with Tab and Shift+Tab on desktop, or by tapping the section name on mobile.
Superhuman says three to seven split inboxes is the right range for most people. You can also build your own using search terms such as from: or subject:, or attach a favorite auto label to it. Default sections can be edited, hidden when empty, reordered, or turned off.
- •Default sections include VIP, Team, News, and Other.
- •Custom sections accept From, To, Subject, Cc, and Bcc search terms.
- •Inbox, Important, and Other cannot be hidden when empty.
How does instant reply work?
Instant Reply drafts three possible replies and places them under the newest message in a thread. On desktop, Tab cycles through the drafts; Enter inserts a reply-all draft, while R inserts a reply and F forwards. On mobile, you tap a chip to switch drafts, then tap the draft to edit it before sending.
Nothing is sent until you press send. The official help page lists several cases where drafts do not appear. They include calendar invites, social or promotional mail, messages with an existing draft, and threads longer than about 20,000 words.
- •Calendar invites and social or promotional email
- •Mail from SendGrid or financial institutions
- •Messages with an existing draft or more than about 20,000 words
What do auto labels do?
Auto Labels read incoming email and apply labels based on its type or content. Built-in labels include Marketing, News, Pitch, and Social, and those messages land in the Other split by default. You can enable more labels from the Auto Label Library, and the change applies to new mail plus the previous 14 days.
Custom labels can use deterministic rules such as sender, recipient, or subject. On the Business plan, you can also describe a label in an AI prompt. Superhuman caps AI-prompt labels at 10, and custom label creation is not available on Android.
What does Superhuman cost?
Superhuman sells a suite with four tiers. Free costs $0 and includes Grammarly, Docs, and Go, but not Mail. Pro is $12 per member per month billed annually, or $15 billed monthly, and adds unlimited paragraph rewrites, translation, and larger docs. Business is $33 per member per month billed annually, or $40 monthly, and adds Mail. Enterprise pricing is custom.
Mail can also be bought on its own. Starter costs $30 per month or $300 per year, and Business costs $40 per month or $396 per year. The Business tier adds Auto Drafts, Ask AI, custom auto labels, and HubSpot and Salesforce integrations.
Limitations to weigh first
- –Superhuman Mail requires a Gmail or Outlook account, and it is not included in the Free or Pro suite plans.
- –Instant Reply is unavailable for calendar invites, social or promotional mail, and messages with an existing draft. It also skips threads over roughly 20,000 words.
- –AI-prompt custom auto labels require the Business plan and are capped at 10. Custom labels cannot be created on Android, and rule-based custom labels are not yet available on iOS.
